Planned Parenthood & BET Host Breast Party Ever For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that according to Susan G. Komen statistics, breast cancer is the most common cancer and is the second leading cause of cancer death to African-American women, exceeded only by lung cancer? In 2013, and estimated 27.060 new cases of breast cancer and 6,080 were expected to occur among African-American women.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Black Entertainment Television (BET)  have partnered for the month of October to educate and bring awareness to the importance of breast health for women, particularly women of color. The organizations have come together to promote the second annual Breast Party Ever, a series of events across the country that bridges women together during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month to celebrate breast education and lifesaving heath services.

The Breast Party Ever brings women, community leaders, medical providers and entertainers together to inform women – particularly between 20 and 40 years of age who may not consider themselves at risk- about important breast health.

“Women of all ages should take the time to be “breast aware,” said Cecile Richards, president of PPFA. “Planned Parenthood and BET recognize the importance of staying on top of your breast health, and that is why we have committed to working together to ensure women have the resources they need. Together, we can reach millions of women particularly those with a greater risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. All women deserve access to education, early detection and the information they need to take charge of their breast health.”

PPFA is the leading provider for cancer screening and women breast health care providing 550,000 breast exams per year at health centers across the nation.
