How did you break the news?

Finding the right moment to tell your partner a new edition will be added to the family (and it isn’t a pet) may not be the easiest task. For some women, their men are the ones desperate and eager to find out if a “bun is in the oven” before the possibility consciously dawns on themselves.

We are sharing a few stories featured in The Mocha Manual to a Fabulous Pregnancy to guide you and your partner through this life changing experience.

Your Partner

These days, most men know their woman’s cycle like their own. Just when you are about the forget your period is coming, your partner will remind you. My friend Rashaun’s fiance’ routinely pops a maxipad into her on the appropriate day. So when many of us are late and then inevitably pregnant, there’s not much surprise left because he asks everyday, “Did it come yet?” or calls the job, “Did it come yet?” Ten minutes later, “What about now?” It’s worst than that “Can you hear me now?” commercial. And with home pregnancy test, your partner is more likely to be around when you find out. If you’ve managed to keep the news to yourself, try leaving the pregnancy test out where he’ll find it, better yet, gift wrap it. Or send him a Father’s Day card and say congratulations. Even if it doesn’t feel like fresh news, that doesn’t mean you still can’t try something unique once you have confirmation. Here are some techniques other sisters used:

My husband was working late so I just left the pregnancy test on the sink in the bathroom. When he came home and saw it, he was    excited . he started jumping up and down on the bed. He was like a kid at Christmas.Phyllis, Chicago, Illinois
