New Breastfeeding Book to Officially Debut at The Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington D.C.

Husband and wife team Chennaiah and V. Kuroji Patrick are getting ready for the official launch party of their first book “This Milk Tastes Good,” — a family-friendly nursery rhyme that takes all of the nutritional goodness of breast milk, the power of the public feeding and the need for daddy to be involved and rolling them into one. This short but fun work has already received the attention of The Breastfeeding Center of Washington D.C. — who will host the party on May 19 — and the renowned Dr. Sahira Long, M.D. of the D.C. Breastfeeding Coalition, who will be the keynote speaker.

“‘This Milk Taste Good’ addresses key issues that primarily impact African American mothers,” Chennaiah said.  “First, it helps normalize breastfeeding — not only for black women, but also for our children as well. My seven-year-old step daughter (who was breastfed for a little over two years) first described the book as gross, whereas my two-year-old thinks it’s perfectly normal to drink mama’s milk.

“This taught me that we must begin normalizing breastfeeding from birth so our children will understand, respect and support nursing.”

In keeping with their goals to promote literacy and nutrition in the black community, Chennaiah and Patrick launched JhaZamoraS Publishing, LLC. in 2011: “We believe literature is a powerful tool for parents to use as a way to bond, educate, communicate and create with their children. Our current concentration is children’s books, covering a range of topics from breastfeeding and nutrition to youth conflict resolution,” reads a press release from the publishing company.

Entertainment and light refreshments will be provided at the party, which begins at 2 p.m. on May 19. If you’re in Washington D.C. and want to stop by, the center is located at 2141 K Street NW, Washington D.C. The launch party is free and open to the public.
