HerStory: Valarie Carey: Helping Mothers & Daughters Bond Over That Time of the Month Print E-mail
time_of_the_month_01_37.jpg Who wants to talk about that time of the month? Valarie Carey does! This Brooklyn mom is creating a new conversation about our periods and empowering mothers and daughters to bond over our cycles. Possible? We asked Carey 5 questions about HerStory that you don't want to miss!

Valarie Carey wants to make that time of the month a bonding experience for mothers and daughters.  That's a tall order considering all of the emotional and physical ups and downs that come with your menstrual cycle. Author and founder of TOTM! Time Of The Month! a calendar planner series designed to track a female's period was inspired by Carey's daughter Shelby, ensuring the precious mother-daughter bond stays in tact as our daughters grow into women. This Brooklyn resident, is blazing new trails talking about stuff folks don't like talking about and creating a new powerful and empowering experience from that typically dreaded time of the month. Check out TOTM and Valarie's website and her blog talk radio show!

We asked Valarie 5 questions to share HerStory.

MM: What three words best describe you?

Carey: Loyal,Honest, and Busy!

MM: How do you get motivated and inspired as an entrepreneur?

Carey: Everyday I wake, I'm inspired. Music motivates me as well as positive affirmations.

MM: What's the most important life lesson you've learned thus far?

Carey: The most important life lesson I've learned thus far is to not put expectations on others.

MM: Tell us about a woman in history that you would love to meet and why.

Carey: There are 3 women in history I would like to have met and love to meet now. Harriet Tubman for her dedication to freeing enslaved people, Helen Keller for her remarkable accomplishments in life despite her disabilities and Oprah Winfrey for shattering the proverbial glass ceiling.

MM: What's your guilty pleasure?

Carey: My guilty pleasure is Diet Coke, a Hershey's with almonds and plain ridges type potato chips.
