Friday Finance: How to Keep "Paying" Your Kids Even When Money is Tight Print E-mail

Looking for a fun, creative way to pay your kids even when money is tight? Today's Friday Finance post has just the answer for you.

Moms, Creative Ways to Keep "Paying" Your Kids Even in Tough Times

By Arlice Nichole

Kids are suffering pay cuts, missed payments and even full-blown layoffs from their allowances, but chores and household responsibilities never end, no matter the economic weather.  As more and more dual income earning households become one, and single parents figure out how to stretch a dollar six different ways, parents have no choice but to make cuts of their own and do what's best for the household and the family. Most kids won't understand that every penny that comes in and goes out must now be carefully accounted for, and this is the perfect time to talk about the recession and teach restraint. Of course, kids won't like it. But, the chores must go on! Moms know best, and smart moms can also make it better for kids, and the bank account with The Amazing Kid Coupon Book: 52 Ways to Say "You're Special and You're Loved!" (Gift Books from Hallmark, $5.95).

There really are 52 reasons to love The Amazing Kid Coupon Book, and here are a few more:

- Kids will have fun with coupons like "Opt Out" which lets a kid get out of something they don't want to do, and "The Wild Card" lets them choose the prize by filling in the blank so parents and/or kids   can choose the award.

- These coupons keep cash in the parent's pocket, and the rewards never end.

- There are coupons that get families doing things together.

- It's the next best thing to cash and definitely beats IOU's!

- Some coupons allow kids to be a little destructive, like "Popcorn on Demand", "Veggie Veto", "A Spicy Morning" as in spicy pizza for breakfast, and "Your Space" (sorry parents - you can't say one        word about clothes on the floor, sticking out of drawers or beds not made for a week!) Mad fun for them!

- You can intensify the fun by placing coupons inside school folders, bicycle helmets, and let them find fun food coupons in the fridge.

- Teaches kids that there are other fun ways to be rewarded.

Kids should be rewarded for a job well done sometimes, and these coupons they'll forget all about their regular paying allowances.  OK, maybe not entirely.

Find the The Awesome Kid Coupon Book at Hallmark gift stores and the card and gift section of most grocery stores.
