Just for Dads...

Now, let's get to what you're really concerned about. Sex. It is, after all, how you got into this situation in the first place. You finally get to have a threesome, though it's probably not the one you've been fantasizing about since age 16. But there's another being affecting your sex life these days, so some minor adjustments may be in the works...

Depending on how your partner's pregnancy is going, and what trimester she's in you may be wondering if your sex life will ever be the same again. The short answer is probably not. But here's some good advice:

Usually during the first trimester, morning sickness, over tiredness and feeling like you've already been invaded can really put a crimp on a woman's sex drive. Please don't take it personally. This may seem like a curse from God since your partner may have fuller breasts and an irresistible glow that has you ready to go! Sorry guys. BTW, poking and prodding her all night will not have the desired effect.

Now, once you get to second trimester, things may change dramatically. Most women have an increased libido during pregnancy, especially in the second trimester when all the first trimester ills have disappeared. This is great for both of you because some women report having the most intense orgasms during pregnancy.  The hormones cause increased blood flow to the genitals, more sensitivity in the vulva and clitoris, and all of that makes for one hot mama! In fact, many couples have some of their most intense lovemaking experiences during pregnancy.

As the belly grows, don't be scurred to experiment with other positions. And despite any barber shop talk of otherwise, there is NO WAY your penis can poke the baby--even if you believe you're hung like a donkey!

So keep your sex and intimacy alive during pregnancy. It's a great way to stay renewed and connected both physically and emotionally during pregnancy. This is crucial given that research has found that while relationship satisfaction tends to increase slightly during pregnancy, with many couples feeling closer, mutual happiness tends to decrease post-birth, with sexual intimacy the most vulnerable area.

Couples who remain intimate, in any of its forms, up through the third trimester, report reconnecting more easily after-baby. It's a win-win for everybody!
