Developmental Milestones
9-12 Months
Can you believe baby’s first year is nearly coming to an end? There’s still much that will happen in months nine to twelve—not to mention, the moment you’ve been waiting for, baby’s first step.
Here’s what else to watch for:
Any mom or pediatrician worth their co-pay will tell you that every baby develops differently. Some babies walk at nine months, others not until after one year. There can be a lot a variation in abilities among nine to 12 month olds, but you should talk to your pediatrician if you have any concerns, or if your baby does not:
1. Point to things and look at pictures by 12 months
2. Search for hidden objects by 12 months
3. Crawl, pull to a stand, cruise or walk in some fashion by
12 months
4. Respond to games like peek-a-boo or pat-a-cake by
12 months
5. Babble or imitate sounds
6. Seem to understand simple words (like mama, dada, ball
or dog), wave good-bye or follow simple commands.
