With Your Little One
 
Your little one sure loves to play. Here are some great things to do at this age that encourage play and learning at the same time.
 
 

 

Get down on it! Enjoy some floor time every day with your child. Crawl around together, play peek-a-boo behind the sofa or roll a ball back and forth to each other. Your child will love having you down on his or her level.
 
Excite their senses! Put together a box of items that are fun to feel, poke and squeeze. Things like plastic margarine tubs, an old sock (clean please!), tissue paper to crumple, measuring cups of different sizes, a turkey baster, a nylon scar, egg carton and paper cups are great things to play with. Make sure you choose items that larger than a half-dollar to avoid choking hazards.
 
Turn it up! Turn on some music and enjoy dancing around the house with your child. (This does not mean droppin’ like it’s hot-type moves!)
 
Make bath time fun. Bath time is a great time to play games, sing songs, and point to body parts and say them with your baby.
 
Read! Read! Read! Nothing builds confidence, language skills and early literacy skills like reading to your child on a regular basis. Our kids need the best start, and beginning a routine of reading in your household is one of the best gifts to give your child.
