Family Vacation Special: Club Med Cancun Yucatan
We love to travel as a family! Whether you’re ready to escape the cold or plan your next summer vacation, Club Med Cancun Yucatan in Cancun is certainly a great, all-inclusive family-friendly spot. We had a ball! Of course, you will love the location. As one of the first all -inclusive resorts to open in Cancun, Club Med has a unique location in the “nook” of Cancun–located on 22 acres of beach, reef and mangrove on the Nizuc Peninsula–to create a remote feeling away from the busy Cancun strip.
Just because it has history doesn’t mean it isn’t modern. In 2014, the resort completed a $14 million renovation adding 60 family suites, accompanied by a new playground; Petit Club Med, the chain’s signature program for toddlers; Maya Lounge, with new entertainment; and La Estancia, an Argentinian restaurant. The resort is one of the brand’s tops for families, a favorite on TripAdvisor, and FamilyVacationCritic.com’s pick for a Mexico Top 10 Resort. Now we know why!
Club Med Cancun Yucatan is rich in history, culture and sports – with activities from the flying trapeze (watch Kayla’s hilarious first attempt!) to waterskiing and snorkeling along the world’s second largest coral reef just steps away from Club Med’s beach.
The Experience—The Club Med G.O’s –as the staff is called –go out of their way to accommodate and please.
The Pool Situation: There are three indoor – outdoor bars, with plenty of mom Margaritas and Coronas, but the emphasis is more on fun than on getting wasted. There’s live nightly entertainment and, at midnight, a signature line dance that guests are encouraged to join, as the Club Med theme song is played at resorts around the world.
The Activities: Some of the sports include Flying trapeze school and circus, windsurfing school, tennis, water ski and wakeboarding, basketball, beach soccer or beach volleyball, snorkeling, archery, waterpolo, sailing, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding. You can also request deep sea fishing, golf, snuba or scuba diving.
The Kids Stuff: Club Med has great kids programs for ages 4-17 included in the rates, and they just added a Petit Club for ages 2-3 for an extra fee. My teens, aged 16 and 12, enjoyed the teen club and making new friends.
The Agua Marina Suites: In a word–Ah-mazing! This is where we stayed! This wing of the resort is next to a pretty new indoor/outdoor restaurant and has its own small beach, playground and tennis courts. It is away from the main facilities but there is frequent shuttle service. The very large suites have two bedrooms (king bed and two twins) sleeping six; the oceanview ones have two baths as well, and the less expensive gardenview suites have two bedrooms with one bath. We loved the motion sensors controlling the air-conditioning and power use, the outdoor shower on the large deck, the sizable living room and bath space.
Upgrade to Jade!: If you want to pay a bit more, go for the privacy and poshness of the Jade wing. There’s a separate reception and concierge, a separate lounge with snacks, beverages and treats and an elegant infinity pool. The Jade oceanview room we saw had a romantic interior bathing area lit by candles, inspiring romance. Only a few of these rooms connect to two-bedroom family units but the single rooms are great for new parents.
Off the Resort: We took a day trip to Tulum to see the Mayan ruins and breathtaking views!
If you are looking for a great time at an all-inclusive, family friendly resort with plenty of activities and local cultural experiences, then Club Med Cancun Yucatan is a top pick.
